Larkrigg was established 35 years ago and is run by Anne Wilson. The Wilson family have farmed Larkrigg for over 50 years. The centre is based in the heart of the Lake District enjoying the wide open spaces that surround. We have a wide range of facilities which means we can offer everything from cross country schooling, lessons to full livery. We have horses ranging from 7hh to 17hh so will be able to find the right horse for you to learn on no matter what your age or experience.Larkrigg prides itself on making learning fun.

We are a BHS approved centre, to link to their website click on logo. BHS approved riding schools comply with the latest health and safety guidelines. They are insured against public liability, and take excellent care of the horses and ponies. Unannounced yearly inspections ensure that standards are kept high.

Horse Riding in the Lake District

Anne Wilson

Anne has run Larkrigg from her home farm for 35 years, she started out giving friends lessons on her ponies and the business soon expanded. Anne is a fully qualified BHSAI and first aider, she has created a wonderfully friendly atmosphere at Larkrigg where customers are treated as much as friends as clients. Anne specialises in getting even the most nervous of beginners to let go of the saddle and learn to have fun riding.

In addition to 30 odd horses Anne also has her pets, two cats, 4 rabbits, several guinea pigs a few dogs and chinchillas who are all spoilt rotten!

Kevin is Anne's Partner and is also an instructor here. He is also the odd job man always keeping up with the jobs on the yard!!

Anne, Kevin, Dannii and Anthony at Aintree pictured with the famous Red Rum

Julie has also been here a very long time, she started riding at 7 years old and never really stopped until she had her children, who now are riders themselves and also have a love of the sport. Dannii who you will see below as she works at Larkrigg and Jordan who in his time riding has Qualified for the Royal International Horse Show

Dannii is Julie's daughter and has always ridden at Larkrigg since she was little so she has never really left!! She rides the Race Horses for Kevin and has a love for showing she has a stallion of her own and she rides Ash who belongs to Anne, and as some of you are aware Ash qualified for Horse of the Year Show and Royal International Horse Show last year so we were all very proud as that is an amazing achievment for a Riding School Pony.

Michelle is a new face around on a Sunday, and proving very popular already!

Our Helpers

Jayne, Becca and Ashleigh are our regular helpers, always coming at weekends whatever the weather and helping us, they are vital to the running of the yard especially in the summer when we do our pony rides and Birthday Parties!! They know the day to day tasks that are needed to be done and are always around when needed!

Our Vets

We have a few vets that come and visit us at Larkrigg, they are called North West Equine Vets they are vital to us as we need all our horses and ponies healthy and well

Our Dentist

Mark Thorne is our regular dentist for all our Horses and Ponies he comes for a couple of days in the summer and gets through them all! Another vital member to us as it is important that our horses are comfortable in their mouth and can eat properly as they get well fed here!!

Our Farriers

Jim Ainley , Richard Helliwell and James Knipe are our farriers, again as horses and ponies feet are growing all the time some ponies need their feet trimming and some need shoes putting on

Our Physiotherapist

Fiona Johnstone is our visiting Physio, she is very popular with all horse owners and is in demand all over lancashire, cumbria and even yorkshire!!

With our horses having to carry beginners, who are a bit wobbly at first it can make the ponies a bit sore, so a good massage is a must for them

Houghtons Equestrian

Houghtons Equestrian belongs to Gemma and Adam, we get our food from them which Adam happily delivers, we have over 35 horses and ponies so we order by the tonne!!! we also have a couple of ponies needing a special diet because one has not very many teeth and the other has a funny jaw and can't chew which Gemma gets in especially for us and delivers!

Anne is someone you will see around and about she is a very good friend to all of us at Larkrigg especially Anne and comes to stay every year, she then takes over the day to day running of the inside of the house and mealtimes giving Anne a break from looking after everyone especially Kevin!!!
